JUMPSTART’S READ FOR THE RECORD®
NOVEMBER 7, 2019
Whitewood Library participates in 'Read for the Record'
Jumpstart’s annual Read for the Record campaign has sparked a global movement focused on the critical importance of early literacy. Jumpstart’s 14th Read for the Record will bring together millions of adults and children as they read the same book on the same day, building an intergenerational community through reading. To date, over 20 million people have participated in Read for the Record, and hundreds of thousands of quality books have been distributed to children in underserved communities across the country.
This year's Jumpstart Read for the Record® book is Thank You, Omu!
by the talented author-illustrator Oge Mora!
Thank You, Omu! tells the story of a generous woman who makes a fantastic pot of thick red stew. The scent from her stew travels all throughout her neighborhood and brings all of her community members over to her home for a taste. By the end, she shares a lovely feast with her neighbors where everyone contributes to the meal.
