What is going on behind closed doors.

Wow! This world situation has been going on longer than I had expected. What is going on behind closed doors.   Actually we are here working so our doors are semi closed.  Patrons are knocking and calling for the services we provide and we are happy to comply.

When the library first shut down we concentrated on cleaning and straightening.   A little more time passed .... we focused on general housekeeping of books on the shelves. Weeding books is a necessary evil in the library world.  We have really had time to inspect and evaluate the condition and use of items on our shelves.

We had a blessing twice with the books we weeded and the homes we found for them.   Millie Humphrey, my old neighbor and very good Whitewood Library patron, was the inspiration to donate the Large Print materials to nursing homes.  Hers and other nursing homes in Sturgis were more that happy to accept new reading materials for their residents during their quarantine.

Recently I attended Summer Reading Program Training at the Sturgis Library.  At the training the Newell School Librarian and I had a conversation about budget and books.  She offered to give our juvenile and young adult books a new home.

Our next step is double check the cataloging information for the books on our shelves.  The Lead library has been doing this also.  The Director, Cyndie Harlan, has shared her process with us.  Each Book on the Shelf will be pulled and checked for correctness in our cataloging system.

Wednesday Activities

Waffle Wednesday has been a big event for the Whitewood Public Library for several years.  We miss the Kids!   Our solution to fill that hole is a rotation of Wednesday events.

Week one is a Book Walk on Laurel Street from 8:00 am - 8:00 pm.
Week two is an I Spy in our window.
Week Three is an outdoor activity around town.

Each of these activities will have challenges for the children to participate in and receive prizes.
