Dear Karren,

Thank you, for your recent donation of the Children’s Book Project to the Whitewood Public Library.
Because of your generous donation of $800, along with our community funds of $400, the combined $1200 was a huge boost to our children’s shelves.   Also your addition of 22 science books in our nonfiction section was a wonderful surprise. Our Chamber of Commerce matched what our Friends of the Library earned at a sale during our community’s all city rummage day.  The Gutknecht family and Tom Parquet topped off our community commitment.
Your donation of  books have been cataloged and were spotlighted during ‘A Grateful Event’ at our library.  Grateful to the Pilcrow Foundation  for the support and wanted to shout it out to our community.  We had volunteers, who helped set up for the event and brought baked goods.  The volunteers were impressed with the interesting selection and the amount of books received from the grant.  While setting up the displays, they were showing each other the books and commenting on the educational value for our children.
The Books were left on display for the rest of the week then placed on a ‘New’ shelf.  From there, we were easily able to continue our promotion about the project and the books individually.  Additionally in order to have a piece of fruit pizza that Mary May made for an after school treat.  The children were to read to themselves or listen to a story.  Fox and the Bike Ride by Corey Tabor, with his specially built bike was a conversation starter!
This Grateful Event was the biggest advertised event we have ever had.  My Work Experience participant and I made invitations and flyers.  The Twin Country Radio station out of Belle Fourche put out the times and also told the whole story during ‘Whitewood News’ slot by our local reporter, Marla Loken. Our town newsletter,  putting up sandwich boards in the street and newspaper story were also part of the advertising plan.
Our one traffic light (for the train) community certainly gained with the help of Pilcrow Foundation’s Children’s Book Project.  We greatly appreciate your support to our library.

With Many Thanks
